When a US based advertising agency decided to open its own office in Japan, Optia Partners was retained to identify the firm’s top Creative Directors.
After several years working closely with another agency in Japan, our American based client decided to open its own office in the Japan market. Renowned for their creative expertise, the agency needed to attract high quality creative directors to the agency.
The agency was to open up and service a number of global brands. The client needed some high quality creative directors that were both art and copy based. Although quite famous in the global market, the agency in Japan was not well known. Optia had to ‘sell’ the agency to key targets in the advertising market.
Optia, using its established network of creative candidates, invited the highest caliber candidates back to its offices for a meeting to discuss this unique opportunity. We asked the candidates to provide a sample of their work both in print and TV, as the work needed to be of the highest, international award winning standard. In addition to reviewing the work, it was necessary to pre-qualify the candidates for personality and culture fit with the client’s organization.
After two months of screening, our client interviewed 7 recommended candidates. 3 of them were hired for the initial start-up phase of the company. One of these candidates went on to be awarded the advertising industry’s highest awards.
The 3 managing partners of the agency selected 3 of the 7 recommended and used a further 2 of the recommended candidates for project work at a later date. The agency was able to quickly put competitive creative pitches together and won two major international accounts within the first 2 months of launch.
