US-based Real Estate Investment Fund – Director, Asset Management

Despite strong demand and short supply of top level Asset Managers in Tokyo, Optia Partners manages to secure a strong Director of Asset Management for a new client and continue building their Asset Management team!

Due to continued growth and a substantial increase in the size of their real estate portfolio, our client needed to recruit a Director level Asset Manager with minimum delay. This was at a time where Asset Managers where in huge demand and short supply in the Tokyo market.

The candidate needed to have excellent experience across all asset classes in addition to exceptional cash-flow modeling skills to assist the underwriters. The candidate was also required to possess excellent English skills.

Several members of the Optia Partners Finance team sat down with the client to identify potential target areas and to create a list of leads in the market. We quickly identified a short list of ten potential candidates within our network and begun the process of screening, but soon found that none of them were going to be of a high enough caliber.

The next step was to build a referral list and to begin leveraging our contacts in order to source a new pool of talent. Through direct approach and further screening, we were able to find two potential candidates from competing funds. After illustrating the benefits of our client and the position to the individuals, we worked with the client to coordinate the interview process and the best suited candidate was quickly chosen.

The client was able to secure a candidate with skills highly sought after within two months. The candidate was very happy with the move, gaining a job with more responsibility and higher salary.

As this was the first search undertaken with the client we were able to create a strong professional relationship and have since helped them to expand their Asset Management team further.
