Subsidies for Start Ups

When starting a new business or expanding into a new market, prefectural and city governments can provide a subsidy to help small and medium sized enterprises hire key employees (“Kiban Jinzai”) required for the reinforcement of business infrastructure in order to bring the business into a sustainable growth path. This includes foreign companies starting their subsidiaries in Japan.

Requirements

Amount of Subsidy

For “Kiban Jinzai” who have worked for more than 1 year, a company can receive ¥1,400,000 per person. The company must apply for it twice:
1) after the employee has completed 6 months of employment.
2) at the end of the 1st year of employment.
¥700,000 will be paid each time. The subsidy will be paid 4 to 5 months after each application.

General employees who are not classified as “Kiban Jinzai”, will be subsidized at ¥300,000 per person. A maximum of 5 general employees per enterprise can be subsidized and the number of general employees cannot be greater than the “Kiban Jinzai”.
