Making the right move before it was too late

With stagnation of his company’s business growth and few resources being put into new product development, the candidate could see that it was time to secure a new position with a stable company.

The candidate had known Optia’s Partner for the Technology Group from a few years ago and decided to get in touch once again to discuss his career situation. His company had been performing poorly for several years which resulted in stagnation of new product development and services for customers and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before things got worse.

The candidate was also approaching his mid forties and was on a high salary. He knew that he would be a prime target if the company decided to restructure. Both the candidate and the Partner agreed that it was better to start looking for a position now rather than later in order to maintain an advantage in negotiating an equivalent or higher level of salary and title. It would be much tougher to negotiate equal or better terms if the candidate were to become unemployed. The Partner used his extensive network to locate a senior level Customer Service Manager position with a global communications software provider.

After a series of interviews with the Japanese Managing Director, Line Managers and the CEO, the candidate won the position. He managed to keep the same level of total gross salary, however most of it was now guaranteed. The candidate accepted and was very satisfied with gaining a high level position in a stable and growing firm while maintaining an excellent salary.
