With the candidate’s superiors changing as frequently as once a year, chances for promotion were not being realized due to a lack of fair appraisal. Optia Partners managed to advance the candidate into a Senior Level Management role at a Leading Global Insurance company.
The candidate was working for a major Japanese electronics manufacturer in the position of Assistant Training Manager reporting to the HR Director within the company’s Human Resources and Administration Division. He was tasked with the development and administration of training programs for the company’s 9000 employees. Over a period of 6 years he had gradually assumed more and more responsibility and had taken on an increasing number of projects, growing his team to 10 people. The candidate was challenged with his work, however the corporate management was failing to properly evaluate and recognize his achievements. His superiors were changing as frequently as once a year and sometimes every 6 months. His frustration increased because his efforts were not being recognized by management and thus he was missing out on opportunities for promotion. When the Partner for Optia Partner’s HR team met the candidate he was able to assess the situation and pointed out the importance of moving out of mid-career and into executive level before it was too late.
Fortunately the right position presented itself 3 months later. It was for Head of Corporate Training at a leading global insurance company. The position held more responsibility than his present role and there was less bureaucracy at the corporate management level. This meant there would be more flexibility for him to implement his strategies and a greater chance for recognition and promotion in the future. The team presented the company and explained the details of the role carefully to the candidate. An initial information meeting was proposed and the candidate found that he got along surprisingly well with the company’s Executive Director. In the second meeting he met his direct report and found that they shared similar experiences and ideas on human resource management and business strategy. The third meeting also went well with the Head of Recruiting and the candidate decided to accept the company’s offer. The candidate received a significant increase in salary compared to his existing position and is now challenged with implementing new corporate wide training programs for over 3000 employees with a team he feels will recognize his contributions.
