An Investor / Business Manager Visa may be obtained by a person who commences and operates a business in Japan or by a Manager or Director of a foreign company dispatched to manage the Japanese office.
Qualified Legal and Accounting professionals may apply for this Visa.
Qualified Engineer / Technical Specialists may apply for this Visa.
Professionals with knowledge pertinent to jurisprudence, economics, sociology or other human science fields, which require specific ways of thought or sensitivity based on experience with foreign culture, may apply for this Visa.
Professionals who can offer specific industrial techniques or skills, on the basis of a contract with a corporation in Japan.
This Visa is useful if headquarters would like to dispatch personnel for a limited period of time to the Japanese office.
Temporary visas may be obtained to cover field trips, participation in short courses or meetings, business liaison and similar activities. Holders of temporary visas should not engage in work activities.
Spouses and children of employees dispatched from headquarters may reside in Japan under the status of “dependent”. They are permitted to engage in day-to-day activities such as attending school, however should not engage in work activities. In some cases part time work may be permitted upon application.
Foreigners who have a visa status in Japan should always be sure to apply for re-entry permission whenever temporarily leaving Japan. In fact Japanese immigration will not let you leave Japan unless you have re-entry permission stamped in your passport. It can be a major inconvenience if you notice that you do not have re-entry permission before boarding a flight.
Foreign nationals residing in Japan should apply for Alien Registration with their local ward office within 90 days of arriving in Japan.
